5 Reasons I've Lost Faith In American Politics!
It seems, this nation, instead of, proactively, addressing the true needs, and priorities, which exist, simply, keeps procrastinating, and putting - off, taking well - considered, timely action, for the best interests of our country, citizens, and the planet, both, at - present, and into the future!
I've reached the point, where, either, I endorse the famous line, from the movie, Network, "I'm mad as hell, and not going to take it anymore," or, become, increasingly, apathetic, because it seems, nothing changes, for the better, despite, who we elect!
Have you ever wondered, if, one of the few, well - intentioned, elected officials, ever asks himself, why he wanted that position, because of the obvious, frustration, and disappointments, caused, largely, by the lack of things, needed, getting, achieved?
Even, those things, which it seems, should be common sense, and not political, keep, falling into the partisan traps of the American political system! With, that in mind, this article will attempt to, briefly, identify, consider, review, and discuss, 5 specific reasons, I feel, as I do.
1. Nothing significant/ necessary changes or is addressed, realistically
Too often, elected officials, instead of serving and representing citizens, and the relevant, sustainable needs and priorities, of our nation, and planet, we witness, only, empty rhetoric and promises, procrastination (putting off, over, and over, again), and their personal/ political agenda, and/ or, self - interest, prioritized, over common sense, and the world's best interests!
We have been warned, for many decades, about the need to protect our environment, in order to preserve, clean air and water, and, thus, public health, at - present, and in the future! Yet, some, today, still proclaim, this is some sort of hoax, denying the need to act, sooner, rather than later! Similarly, the Climate Change, deniers, harm all of us!
Selective interpretation, of our rights and freedoms, instead of protecting all our Constitutional guarantees, threatens America's identity! Regardless, many politicians, seem to, either, not care, or find inconvenient, many truths, etc!
2. Both sides lie. and are hypocrites
It's not, as - if, one political side, is pure, while the other is not! Rather, we witness, where both sides lie, when it is convenient, and supports their perspectives, and proceed, being, at - best, hypocrites! How else, can we explain, the same individuals, who oppose a woman's right - to - choose, fail to support, needed, common sense, public health measures, gun safety controls, etc?
3. Money has too much influence, in politics!
The influence of money, in terms of policy, and access, harm the ideology, our nation, was founded, on! We must restrict, how our elections, and campaigns, are conducted, including the ridiculous expense/ costs, and length of the campaigning process!
4. Little common sense!
Unfortunately, even more than in many other aspects of our lives, it seems, there is little, common sense, used, in public leadership, etc! Why is it so rare? Why do we continue, making, the same mistakes, over - and - over, again? What happens to those candidates, when they become office holders?
5. Too much populist politics/ Not enough viable solutions
When, the emphasis, focuses on populist politics, rather than doing, what's best, needed, relevant, and sustainable, it clearly, demonstrates, a serious flaw in our political system, and largely, explains, why so - many, are turned - off, by politics - as - usual!
Wake up, America, and demand changes, for the better, sooner, rather than later, or, it might be too late, to avoid, the loss of this nation's ideology, reason - for - being, and the best relevant, sustainable, path, going - forward! I am far - less, than confident, we will be able to, achieve these necessary changes, before it's too late!
